Identity Solutions: A Holistic Approach In a world that appears to be soon converging toward the development of robust and automatic systems of identification for virtually everything, it is incumbent upon academia, industry, and government to collaborate on designing sound solutions - solutions that not only address technical issues such as biometrics, RFID, and smart cards, but also address the broader socioeconomic, ethical, and legal issues. The movement toward automatic identification of everything from people and animals to shipping containers, location, and medicines is driven by the need for greater accuracy, security, quality and efficiency in the capture of identity information and in the authentication process itself in order to prevent fraud, save lives, and protect property while also respecting personal privacy. Such robust and innovative solutions to the identification problem require a holistic and multidisciplinary approach. The purpose of the symposium is to bring together experts from academia, government and industry to address the subject from a variety of viewpoints. These include identification technologies, identity information management and quality, personal identification, identification and tracking, in agriculture, food, healthcare, supply chains and transportation, legal, socioeconomic, behavioral, and ethical issues. At the conclusion of the symposium, the attendees will gain a better and unbiased understanding of the critical issues in identity management and current direction of identity solutions research.
